This vibrant takeout-only restaurant specializes in classic island fare, offering a deliciously homey dining experience that keeps both locals and visitors coming back for more.
The moment you dive into Hukilau Cafe’s menu, you’ll notice the wonderful blend of flavors that honor traditional Hawaiian breakfasts alongside hearty American favorites. Popular dishes such as the Loco Moco—featuring two homemade hamburger patties layered on steamed rice and topped with rich brown gravy and sunny-side eggs—showcase the cafe’s mastery of comfort food. This iconic dish even earned a nod in Food Network Magazine for good reason.
Beyond the Loco Moco, the menu bursts with enticing options like the fluffy Banana Pancakes and the decadently nutty Macadamia Nut Pancakes, perfect for those who crave a sweet start to their morning. For savory lovers, the Chicken Katsu and the flavorful Supreme Omelet burst with satisfying textures and bold island-inspired seasoning. And don’t miss the Hawaiian Sweet Bread French Toast, which offers a soft, buttery, and subtly sweet bite that pairs beautifully with the tropical tang of their Passion Orange Juice.
Hukilau Cafe also shines with its variety of breakfast sandwiches and mixed plates, such as their hearty Spam & Egg Sandwich or the BBQ-infused Mixed Plates offering teriyaki beef and mahimahi that delivers a savory punch. The Fried Rice & Eggs is a staple here, served piping hot with your choice of ham, bacon, Portuguese sausage, and more—a true local favorite that comforts and satisfies.
Although Hukilau Cafe does not offer dine-in seating, the takeaway service is swift and efficient, making it an ideal stop for grabbing an authentic breakfast before hitting the nearby Hukilau Beach or exploring the scenic surroundings. Many customers share their joy in pairing their meals with ocean views just minutes away, turning a simple breakfast into a memorable island experience. As one visitor exclaimed, enjoying coconut pancakes while gazing out at the sea is “pretty much heaven on earth.”
The warm, welcoming staff here consistently delivers friendly service that enhances the overall experience. Customers praise the genuine, homemade flavors that remind them of family breakfasts back home as well as the generous portions that offer excellent value for the price.
Whether you’re in the mood for stackable pancakes dripping with extra gravy, a savory breakfast platter packed with local favorites, or a refreshing passion orange juice to start your day on a bright note, Hukilau Cafe promises an authentic taste of Hawaiian morning tradition that leaves you feeling nourished and delighted.

Wonderful little take out place. Food was amazing! We ordered a Loco Moco, POG juice and Hot Chocolate (yes it works together ). Great food! Great Service! We're out here on vacation and couldn't help but try it. We'll be back next time we're up here
Food tastes very homemade and simple. I tired the banana pancakes and fried egg Sandwhich. Take out only. We found a place next to the beach to eat.
Local restaurant with great food and service. Breakfast was amazing. My husband said it's the best omelet he's ever had. I had coconut pancakes that were excellent. There's not a place to sit and eat. It's definitely takeout. But we drove to the Hukilau beach literally two minutes away to eat. Eating coconut pancakes while looking at the ocean is pretty much heaven on earth, just saying.
such good food. Definitely recommend for a nice local breakfast experience! No seating. Prices are not bad. Must go if you want a good egg, rice and spam and much more! Street parking only, but it was easy to find. There is a corner store right next to it which also served some freshly made snacks and other convenience store items.
Food was awesome! Great portions, great price (compared to other places we’ve eaten) and friendly staff. Take out only and make sure you have cash. Will definitely come here again!
Did I come because of the movie? Of course. Did the food exceed my expectations? Most definitely. It’s a cute neighborhood spot! It was a bummer you can’t go inside to eat but the service and food make up for it! Seriously so good. The banana pancakes were so yummy and the loco moco is mouth watering.
The banana pancakes were phenomenal. Take out only. Park on the side (right of the sign). This was recommended to me by a friend who went to school nearby and it did not disappoint. Very filling and reasonably priced for Hawaii.
